November 15, 2008 Budget Hearing
BUDGET HEARING November 15, 2008 Chairman Rodger Lodholz called the Budget Hearing to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Upham Town Hall. Also present were Roger Henke, James Jansen, Tim Murphy, Leah Antoniewicz and 9 visitors. The clerk went over the proposed budget of $374,093. The Clerk explained that as of 12/31/08, the estimated cash balance would be $33,546.31 and that $25,000 of this balance had been included in the revenue to retain the same tax levy as 2007 of $186,127.00. The entire budget was gone through by account. Discussion took place concerning cutting trees at the cemetery. Nancy and Wally Perlberg pointed out that cutting the trees would save money for maintenance as raking and tree trimming would not be needed. The board felt that this was not the meeting for this decision and instructed the clerk to put the topic of cutting trees at the cemetery on the 2009 Annual Meeting agenda. Larry Anderson requested that $1,000.00 be included in the budget as a donation to the Langlade County Humane society. Discussion followed. Richard Zacharias requested the town provide for the public at each town board meeting the minutes of the previous month meeting and a print out of the bills paid. Discussion took place regarding the current mileage rate paid by the town of 20 cents per mile. The current federal rate is 58.5 cents a mile. Larry Anderson made a motion to change the mileage rate to follow federal regulations as necessary. Richard Zacharias seconded. Motion carried unanimously. LeRoy Spielbauer made a motion to add $1,000.00 to the 2009 budget for a donation to the Langlade County Humane Society. Larry Anderson seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The board members suggested adding $500.00 to the fire number account for replacement fire numbers. The following adjustments were made to balance the budget: $1,000.00 was added to the expenditures for a donation to the Langlade County Humane Society, $500.00 was added to the fire number account and the road construction account was reduced by $2,500.00. In total, this changed the proposed budget by $1,000.00. A motion was made and seconded to adopt the 2009 Budget of $373,093.00 Motion carried. Bob Kelm made a motion to adjourn the hearing.
